Our Mission

The mission of Desert Christian Schools is to disciple students in partnership with Christian families while providing a biblically integrated traditional liberal arts education, so that they will mature spiritually, develop a biblical worldview, and be academically prepared to impact their world for Christ.

Purpose

It is the purpose of Desert Christian Schools to:

  • Provide and maintain an independent, inter-denominational, parent-sponsored and board directed Christian school system on the east side of Tucson.
  • Aid parents in their God-given responsibility to train their children “in the discipline and instruction of the Lord” (Ephesians 6:4; Deuteronomy 6:4-6)
  • Offer a rigorous traditional liberal arts education, which emphasizes the Lordship of Christ in the totality of life; values truth, goodness, and beauty as embodied in the western Judeo-Christian heritage; teaches the skills of thinking, communicating, and relating (Colossians 3:23; 1 Corinthians 10:26; Acts 7:22)
  • Promote a personal trust in Jesus Christ for the ultimate purpose of glorifying God through a life of service and obedience (Psalm 3:5,6; 1 Corinthians 10:31; Mark 10:43-45)

As humans, we cannot guarantee a person’s salvation. We can however provide an environment which promotes Christ.

It is our desire that our students will:

  • Have a personal trust in Jesus Christ for the ultimate purpose of glorifying God through a life of service and obedience. (Psalm 3:5,6 , I Corinthians 10:31, Mark 10:43-45).
  • Critically evaluate their faith in Jesus Christ and have made it their own. (Romans 12:1-2, II Corinthians 13:5)
  • Have a biblical view of who God is and how he deals with mankind. (Proverbs 9:10)

"Academically prepared students"

All Christians should desire to learn and grow. Our students will:

  • Think critically, logically and creatively.
  • Read with comprehension, discernment and enjoyment.
  • Write with clarity, precision, style and power.
  • Listen with understanding and sensitivity.
  • Speak articulately and correctly.
  • Understand and apply the mathematical and scientific concepts that underlie God’s creation.
  • Respond, appreciate and evaluate a wide range of cultural expressions through the study of history, literature and the arts.
  • Turn learning into loving service.

"Students with an integrated biblical worldview"

The skill of applying understanding to daily life, in a way that honors God, is our desired end. Our students will:

  • Recognize that the Bible provides the Christian framework for interpreting and responding to all of life. (II Timothy 3:16)

"Students who impact their world for Christ"

Our students will recognize that Christ desires that His disciples follow His example. Our students will:

  • Work within Christ’s body. (I Thessalonians 4:1 , Ephesians 4:13)
  • Become leaders in this world, leading by example. (Romans 12:16, 1 John 3:18, Colossians 3:17 )
  • Develop moral integrity and personal responsibility. (Proverbs 20:11, Proverbs 22:1, 2 Timothy 2:22, 1 Thessalonians 4:12, Romans 13:8, Titus 2:7, Proverbs 21:8)
  • Be responsible citizens. (1 Peter 2:13-14, Titus 3:1, Romans 14:16, Philippians 2:4)
  • Be good stewards. (Matthew 25:14-30, Ephesians 5:15-16, Proverbs 21:20)

Distinctives

Christian:

Desert Christian Schools recognizes Jesus Christ as the author, revealer, and sustainer of reality.  There is nothing over which Christ is not Lord!  Therefore, we believe that there is a distinct way of observing and understanding all things truly, from a Christian (biblical) world view.

“In [Christ] are hidden all treasures of wisdom and knowledge.”  Colossians 2:3

Independent:

Desert Christian Schools is an independent, parent-sponsored school system in which parents are free to exercise authority over, and responsibility for, their children’s education without interference.  Teachers are free to teach truth as truth.  Students are free to pursue truth, wisdom, and knowledge openly and without relativistic distortion.

“See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary principles of the world, rather than according to Christ.”  Colossians 2:8

Public:

Desert Christian Schools serves the public good by producing students who are citizens living, working, and acting in the public realm.  We aim to help students grow in their responsibilities and duties as citizens to become a source of leadership and service to their neighborhoods, communities, and nation.

“But we urge you, brethren, to excel still more and to make it your ambition to lead a quiet life and attend to your own business and work with your hands, just as we commanded you, so that you will behave properly toward outsiders and not be in any need.”  1 Thessalonians 4:10-12
